This is the perfect workshop to learn encaustic painting for the first time or refresh skills you may already have. While beginners learn the fundamentals, experienced students will have the opportunity to work on more advanced projects. We will then focus on integrating existing images with encaustic. Techniques taught will include collage using a tack iron, photo underlays, photo transfers, embedding tissue paper prints, pours, and joss paper transfers. Students may bring their photographic images, other found images or they may use visual materials that are provided. Rather than merely painting encaustic on top of photographs, our goal is to integrate existing images with the wax, creating a cohesive painting with meaningful content.
